Detail About Phaplu To Gokyo Trek

Are you at the stage of your life that you are looking for a big physical challenge? Are you looking for adventure and beauty? Well, Mountain Ram Adventures has this all wrapped up together in a 18 day trek for you.

The Phaplu to Gokyo trek is not your average hike. It is equally strenuous as rewarding.

You will take the thrilling drive from Kathmandu to Phaplu to begin your journey. As you are in the vehicle, keep an eye on the landscape that you will surely get closer to over the next few days of travel.

Your trekking days will range from approximately 3–7 hours of arduous walking. The views of Cho Oyu, Makalu, Lhotse will surely take your breath away. And of course then there’s Mount Everest, a beauty on her own. You will have plenty of time to fall in love, as many others before you have, in the pristine landscape and culture this area has to offer.

One of past Mountain Ram Adventures trekkers’ favorite stops is the Namche Bazaar. You will have time there to acclimatize, speak to fellow trekkers, and of course… shop!

From Namche Bazaar, we continue on making our way through the Sherpa villages of Dole and Machhermo, then onto the amazing Gokyo Lakes in Nepal's Sagarmatha National Park.

The ultimate end part of this trek leads you to the top of Gokyo Ri, located on the west side of the Ngozumpa glacier, the largest glacier in Nepal. There is only a hamlet with a few stone houses there in this area.

Now that you have completed the ‘difficult part’ of your journey, you will now backtrack through Namche (more last minute shopping!) and off to Lukla to take an exciting flight back to Kathmandu where your journey began.

This trek offers such a different visual perspective on the Nepal Himalayas. We hope you join us as we become explorers together in this magnificent region.

  7. Best Time to Trek In The Phaplu To Gokyo Trail
Trekking or any adventure in the Himalayas depending on the season can always be an unique experience for the travelers. In Nepal travelers can experience four distinct seasons stretching throughout the year each spanning for around 3 months. For the adventure in the Himalayas the peak season is considered to be during the season of Spring and Autumn. Even Though possible to trek through the trekking trails the season of Winter and Summer/ Monsoon is considered to be “off season” during which the travelers flow is less to none even at popular trekking destinations due to unfavorable conditions.

    Trekking During the Spring Season:
Trekking during the Spring season is one of the best times as the wild flowers of the lush green mid hills begin to bloom including the national flower of Nepal, the Rhododendron found abundant in the trekking trail from Phaplu to Gokyo. The trek can be enjoyed by the trekkers as the skies are cleared with less to none clouds during the day time which obstruct the views of the Himalayas and the lush valleys. The Spring season spans from March to May and begins after the winter season due to which the weather is a bit towards the cold side, just ideal for trekking and adventure. During the spring season the trekking trails of the popular routes can be filled with trekkers so travelers are suggested to make arrangements for their journey before its beginning.

    Trekking during the Autumn season:
Trekking during the Autumn season is arguably the best time for trekking in the Himalayas as multiple factors including weather, trail condition, and views are simply at its finest. The Autumn season begins shortly after the humid monsoon season spanning from September to November and welcomes the winter season afterwards. Trekking in the Himalayas is at its peak during the Autumn season due to which trekking routes of popular trekking destinations can become crowded needing trekkers to book the amenities well before beginning of their trip. The trekkers will enjoy the stunning views of the Himalayas without much obstruction during this time as the skies are pristine with no interruption from the clouds.

    Trekking During the Winter Season
Trekking is considered to be difficult during the Winter season (December-February) as the upper regions of the Phaplu to Gokyo Trekking Trail is covered under a thick layer of snow. Even though it is difficult to trek in the Winter season, it is the most beautiful time to trek in the Everest region as the views of the Khumbu Peaks are awe-inspiring and the valleys of the region are covered in snow providing stellar views of the surrounding vista. The travelers need warm clothes to withstand the harsh conditions of the Himalayas which can easily go below freezing temperatures during the night times. At the peak season the locals of the Higher region descend to the lower regions as the conditions can become unbearable.  If planning to trek during this time then trekkers need to be well prepared for their journey with experienced guides and porters assisting them for their journey.

    Trekking During the Monsoon Season
Trekking during the Monsoon season is not a good time to participate in the trek as the travelers will not be able to enjoy the majestic views of the Himalayas. The Monsoon season in Nepal is quite unique as the Summer and Monsoon season coexist together making the months from June to August humid and warm which is not ideal for trekking. The offbeat trails of the Phaplu to Gokyo Trail turns into muddy and slippery paths making it much more difficult for the travelers to navigate through. The travelers need to worry about mosquitos and leeches as well while trekking through the abundant forest of Rhododendron and Oak trees. The travelers need to carry waterproof gears for their trek as without it trekking is impossible during this time as it constantly rains. The risk of landslides are also high so trekkers are suggested to stay on high alert during the trek. The travelers are suggested to carry insect repellents for their journey as well as without it trekking can become  much more of a problem. The team suggests the travelers travel to plan their trek in a different season if possible as the travelers will not get to witness the majestic views of the Himalayan vista and enjoy the beautiful trails.

  8. Guides and Porters During The Trek
The Mountain Ram Adventures will be assigning the trekkers with Guides and Porters(if necessary) and their salary, insurance is included in the package. The Guides assigned for the trek will be licensed by the Government and will be accompanying the trekkers for the entirety of their trek. The travelers will be shared with the vast knowledge about the routes and surrounding of the Himalayas making the trek much more entertaining. The porters assigned for the trek will be carrying the essentials of the trekkers in a duffel bag totalling to around 20 KG . One porter will be assigned for two trekkers 10 KG each. The porters will be heading separate from the trekkers and guide carrying their load so, trekkers are suggested to take out all the essential for the day from the duffle bag.  After completing their trek the trekkers can provide their guides and porters with tips as a gesture of thanking them for their assistance for the entirety of the journey.

  9. Insurance For The Phaplu To Gokyo Trek
Insurance is a must for trekkers participating in the Phaplu To Gokyo Trek with the Mountain Ram Adventures Team. The Himalayan conditions are unpredictable at times which can lead to change in course of the itinerary, emergency evacuation and medical emergencies during which additional charges will be incurred for the trekkers which are not covered by the package. However the insurance plan of the travelers helps to fully or partially cover these expenses due to which the travelers have less of a financial burden in their back. The travelers are suggested to be insured for the trek as it also helps the team assigned to make quick decisions without much worry.

  10. Risks During Phaplu To Gokyo Trek
Altitude Sickness: Altitude sickness is one of the main problems during the trek as the trekkers will be trekking to an elevation of more than 5000 M at which the oxygen level is considerably low at around 50-60% of sea level making it difficult for the trekkers to trek if not properly acclimatized with the altitude. The trekkers can carry medicines like Acetazolamide to be on the safer side but it is not compulsory as the guides will be carrying a first aid kit equipped with medicines for altitude sickness. If the trekkers feel any difficulty while trekking then they are requested to inform their guides and team as soon as possible as they will access the situation and if it gets worse then contact the team at Kathmandu requesting for emergency evacuation during which trekkers will be transferred to hospitals within the Kathmandu valley.

Landslides and Avalanches: The risk of Avalanches and Landslides is there if trekking during the season of Summer and Winter season. The trekkers are suggested to stay at high alerts while trekking as the conditions of the Himalayas can change within minutes leading to unprecedented damages. The team members will be making some adjustments in the itinerary if such events occur while trekking. The trekkers safety will be the main priority of the guides so, ensuring that the trekkers return safely from the Himalayas will be the main priority and the decisions made by the team will be ensuring the safety of the trekking team.

Meals: Trekkers will be provided with three meals per day one item from the menu while in the Himalayas if traveling with the Mountain Ram Adventures. The travelers are suggested to consume balanced meals during the trek and whilst in the upper region avoid the consumption of meat products as the meat in the upper region are not stored properly and can cause indigestion leading to severe health complications. The travelers are requested to inform their guides and team members if they have any allergies or medical conditions to avoid any severe cases whilst in the Himalayas.
