Frequently Asked Questions Expand All

The Cho La Pass is a high mountain pass located in the Solu Khumbu region of northeastern Nepal, near the border with Tibet. It sits at an elevation of 5,420 meters (17,782 feet) above sea level and connects the Gokyo Valley to the east with the Khumbu Valley to the west.

The Chola Pass trek is one of the toughest treks in the Khumbu region (Everest region). Following Chola pass trek itinerary, you will walk 5 to 6 hours a day at minimum. The trail gets steep and offbeat as you trek further. You will trek through dense forests, glaciers, moraines, and mountain passes.

On average, the cost of a 19-day Gokyo Cho La Pass trek can range from USD 1,700 to USD 2,800 per person. This cost usually includes transportation to and from the starting and ending points of the trek, permits, guides, porters, food, accommodation, and other necessary expenses.

No, you do not need crampons for Chola Pass trekking in the spring and autumn seasons. However, if you do this trek in winter, late December to early March, you may need to use crampons to cross the pass. We will assess the weather and let you know in advance whether crampons are needed or not.

From sea level, the Cho La pass is situated at 5,420 meters (17,782 feet). Our Chola pass trek itinerary is 19 days long with ample acclimatization days and lets you explore Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lakes.

The Chola Pass trek is a challenging high-altitude trek that requires a good level of physical fitness and some prior trekking experience. The trail involves steep ascents and descents, rocky and slippery terrain, and high altitude. Therefore, it is not recommended for beginners or those without any prior trekking experience.

Yes, you will need a sleeping bag for the Chola Pass trekking. During the trek, you will be staying at tea houses or lodges along the trail. They provide basic accommodation with a bed, blanket, and pillow. However, they don't usually provide sleeping bags, and you will need to bring your own.

The temperature in the mountains can drop significantly at night, particularly at higher altitudes, so a good quality sleeping bag rated for sub-zero temperatures is essential to keep you warm and comfortable during the trek.

Staying overnight at Everest Base Camp is not recommended for several reasons. The base camp is located at an altitude of over 5,000 meters. The lack of oxygen can cause altitude sickness, which can be life-threatening. Likewise, the base camp is a temporary site with no permanent infrastructure. Additionally, the weather at the base camp is harsh and unpredictable, with extreme temperatures, high winds, and frequent snowstorms.

Acclimatization days during a trek are rest days that are included in the itinerary to allow trekkers to adjust to the altitude gradually. As trekkers ascend to higher altitudes, the air pressure and oxygen levels decrease, and their body needs time to acclimatize to the new conditions. Acclimatization days involve staying at the same altitude for an extra day or two, allowing the body to adapt to the reduced oxygen levels.

Yes, you can customize the Chola Pass trek itinerary with us. To customize the itinerary, get in touch with us and share your requirements with our travel consultants. Our team will help you to create your dream trek in the Everest region.

If you cannot join the Chola Pass trek after booking with us, let us know as soon as you can because the cancellation charge depends on the number of days left to begin the journey. You can learn in-depth about our cancellation policy in terms and conditions.
