  3. You have to get proper rest and eat plenty of food to keep yourself energized during the trek.
  4. Do not rush while trekking. Maintain your pace to have energy throughout the day.
  5. If you feel any discomfort like headache, breathing problem, vomiting, dizziness, etc, inform your guide. These are some of the early signs of altitude sickness.

Best time to trek Everest Base Camp

The best time to join the Phaplu to Everest base camp trek is spring and autumn. These are the transitional seasons and therefore have the best weather conditions for trekking.

Phaplu to Everest Base Camp Trek in Spring

From March to May (spring), the trail is exceptionally beautiful because of all the rhododendrons and other flowers. If you like flowers, teeming vegetation, and birds, we highly recommend trekking in spring. With the average temperature rising up to 12°C in the lower altitude during the daytime, you will not feel that hot while trekking. The mountain views are also great as they are covered with fresh snow.

Phaplu to Everest Base Camp Trek in Summer/Monsoon

Summer and monsoon go hand in hand. The months are June, July, and August. It is one of the offseasons for trekking. The trail sees a huge risk of landslides in monsoon. As Phaplu to Everest base camp trek includes trekking in the lower elevation for many days, you will face many challenges like muddy and slippery trails, bad views, heavy rainfalls, unstable weather, etc.

However, the vegetation is thriving at this time of the year. If you are into biodiversity, June to August is a great time of the year to trek. You have to be prepared for all kinds of weather during this time. The temperature ranges from 2°C to 22°C and goes above on some days.

Phaplu to Everest Base Camp Trek in Autumn

Autumn (September to November) is another best time of the year to trek in the Everest region. It is also a transitional time of the year with stable weather and clear views. The temperature ranges from 5°C to 18°C, making the climate quite pleasant for long walks. The region is freshened up thanks to all the rainfall, so there is no pollution, and the air is rejuvenating.

The rivers, streams, and waterfalls are all raging with water. Likewise, the colorful autumn leaves decorate the trails. Autumn is also the season of festivals in Nepal. If you are trekking in October and November, you can customize the trek date to let you witness Dashain, Tihar, and Chhath. Likewise, many Jataras are held all over Kathmandu, making this time of the year quite enchanting.

Phaplu to Everest Base Camp Trek in Winter

Trekking in the winter is possible with extra precaution and preparation. The views can be obstructed by fog on some days, but when clear, you will get to witness magical natural panoramas. The temperature drops below 0°C, especially at the upper part of the trail, so it is extremely cold. As winter is an off-time for trekking in the Everest region, the trail is empty. The serenity and alone time you will get is just wonderful.

Trek Tips to Everest

  1. Internet: While the Everest region is quite remote and lacks consistent network coverage, some lodges and tea houses offer limited Wi-Fi access for trekkers. However, the internet speed and reliability might vary significantly, so it's advisable not to rely heavily on staying connected during the trek. Get a tourist sim for a better connection. Ncell is quite popular as it offers (not very reliable) a network up to Everest base camp.
  2. Hot Shower: During the Phaplu to Everest Base Camp trek, access to hot showers can be a luxury rather than a norm, especially in higher altitude regions. Lodges along the route may provide basic shower facilities, often using heated water stored in buckets. As you ascend to higher altitudes, the availability of hot water may decrease due to the challenges of heating water at altitudes.
  3. Charging: Lodges offer charging services for a fee. Keep in mind that electricity availability may be limited, especially in higher altitudes. Bring spare batteries or portable chargers to ensure you can capture breathtaking landscapes without worrying about running out of power.
  4. ATM: Access to ATMs is relatively limited on the Phaplu to Everest Base Camp trek route. The last reliable ATM facilities are in Namche Bazaar. We suggest you carry enough Nepalese Rupees (NPR) to cover your expenses during the trek. Some lodges may accept card payments, but it's safer to have cash on hand, as connectivity issues or technical glitches can occur.
  5. Luggage: We use duffle bags to carry trekking clothes and backpacks to keep essential items with us. Porters carry the duffel bags, and you will be in charge of the backpack. Pack appropriate clothing for various weather conditions and layers to accommodate changes in altitude. Keep in mind that you'll need to strike a balance between having enough essentials and not overburdening yourself or your porter. 10 kg is the weight limit for a duffel bag for each trekker.

Guides and Porters on EBC

Our guides are well-versed in the terrain, culture, and traditions of the Everest region. They provide valuable insights, ensure your safety, and manage logistics. Similarly, porters ease the physical strain of carrying your belongings, allowing you to trek more comfortably. Porters are an integral part of the local economy, and hiring them contributes to the livelihood of the communities along the route.

Tipping the porter and guide on EBC

Tipping is customary and appreciated in the trekking industry in Nepal, including the Phaplu Everest Base Camp trek. Your guide and porter play essential roles in making your journey enjoyable and safe. Tipping serves as a gesture of gratitude for their hard work and dedication. While there are no strict guidelines, a general practice is to tip around 10-20% of the total trek cost. Consider the quality of service, duration of the trek, and your budget when deciding on the tip amount.

Insurance for the Everest Base Camp Trek

Travel insurance is highly recommended for the Phaplu to Everest Base Camp trek. The region's rugged terrain, varying weather conditions, and potential altitude-related challenges make it essential to have coverage that includes medical emergencies, evacuation, trip cancellations, and lost belongings. Ensure that your insurance policy covers trekking at high altitudes and specifically includes the Everest region. Travel insurance provides peace of mind and financial protection in case of unforeseen circumstances.

Personal Expenses

When budgeting for the Phaplu to Everest Base Camp trek, consider personal expenses beyond the basic trekking costs. These can include souvenirs, snacks, extra meals, beverages, and any optional activities you might want to experience along the way. While teahouses and lodges provide meals, they might charge more for items like bottled water and snacks. Having a reasonable estimate of your personal expenses allows you to manage your budget effectively and enjoy your trek without financial worries.

We do not provide a visa guarantee, but you can use the trip confirmation letter sent by our company to obtain the visa. Nepal offers visas upon arrival for most nationalities at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu.

Make sure to check with the Nepalese consulate or embassy in your home country beforehand to confirm the latest requirements and fees. Typically, you'll need a valid passport, a passport-sized photo, and the appropriate visa fee in cash. Also, keep a few photocopies of your passport and visa separately for safekeeping throughout the journey.

Laundry

While trekking through the breathtaking landscapes of the Phaplu Everest base camp route, being clean can be a challenge. Laundry facilities are limited along the trekking trail, and options might be scarce or expensive. Pack enough clean clothes to last the duration of the trek. You can consider lightweight, moisture-wicking clothing that's easy to wash and dries quickly. Additionally, packing a small supply of biodegradable soap can help you wash small items along the way.

Money Exchange

Kathmandu and other larger cities have currency exchange services, but the availability of such services diminishes as you ascend along the trail. Exchange sufficient Nepalese rupees (NPR) before departing for the trek. You can exchange major currencies like US dollars or Euros in Kathmandu. Carry a combination of cash and a debit/credit card for emergencies. Keep in mind that while some lodges may accept cards, they might charge an additional fee, and network connectivity can be unreliable.

Emergency Fund

Unforeseen situations, such as unexpected medical expenses, weather-related delays, or changes in plans, can arise during the trek. Having a dedicated emergency fund in cash can provide you with peace of mind and the necessary financial resources to address these situations promptly.
