You can try local wine, beer, and rum while trekking back to Syabrubesi. Likewise, boiled drinking water is available in all tea houses along the trail.

Transportation

For the Langtang valley trek, we have to use ground transportation to drive to/from the starting and ending point of the trail. We use a private four-wheeler as per the group size to travel between Kathmandu and Syabrubesi. Syabrubesi is the starting and ending point of our Langtang valley trek 11 days. All the transportation will be provided as per the itinerary.

Langtang Valley Trek Permits

It is necessary to obtain the required permits before you trek in any region in Nepal. For the Langtang valley trek, you will need a Langtang National Park permit and a TIMS Card. Our Langtang valley trek cost includes charges for both of these permits. Moreover, our team will obtain the permits on your behalf, saving you the government leg work.

Below, we have mentioned the cost for both permits:

  • Langtang National Park permit cost for SAARC nationals: USD 15 + 13% VAT per person
  • Langtang National Park permit cost for other nationals: USD 30 + 13% VAT per person
  • TIMS Card cost: NPR 2,000 per person

Langtang Valley Trek Difficulty

Langtang valley trek is a moderate trek. It is a perfect trek to start your voyage in the Himalayas. This trek is not easy by any means, but it is also not extremely challenging. If you are well prepared, there will be no issue completing the Langtang valley trek. The terrain is rough and uneven.

From Syabrubesi, the trail gradually ascends via forests and cliffsides to Lama Hotel. Further, the trail is similar and gets rugged as elevation increases. There are constant ascents and descents with less leveled paths. You will be trekking uphill mostly to reach Kyanjin Gompa.

On the way, you will encounter some steep sections and also trek past landslide-prone areas. Cross thrilling bridges and small streams over rocks. Every day is almost 5-6 hours of walking. Keep yourself hydrated and take frequent 5-minute breaks to rest and recover. This way, you will not feel extremely exhausted.

If you are trekking to Langtang valley during the peak seasons (spring and autumn), there will not be many weather-related difficulties. Wear the clothes in layers and remove them as needed. Predicting weather in the Himalayas is tough. It can change at any time, so make sure you are prepared for all kinds of weather.

Altitude Sickness

Altitude sickness means you will have difficulty in breathing and sleeping, may feel nausea and loss of appetite, and face headaches, vomiting, etc. These are also the symptoms of altitude sickness. If you see any of these changes in you during the Langtang valley trek, inform your guide and take preventive measures.

Altitude sickness happens because of elevation change and thin air. It can be bypassed if you acclimatize and ascend slowly. During the Langtang valley trek, you will go above 5,000 meters from sea level, which is quite high. But you reach this elevation gradually, spending nights in villages at lower elevations.

Our Langtang valley trek itinerary progresses slowly. You will not rush following us on this trek and get plenty of time to acclimatize. Our guide will monitor your health and make sure you are traveling fine. In case you get altitude sickness, he will provide you first aid as per your condition before climbing any further.

Below are some of the things you can do to avoid altitude sickness during Langtang valley trekking:

  • Do not rush because you will get tired easily and have to carry an exhausted body until you reach the final destination of the day. Maintain your pace and take short breaks.
  • Practice long breathing and keep drinking water.
  • Do not smoke or drink any kind of alcoholic drinks. These things will dehydrate your body and make you prone to altitude sickness.
  • Get adequate sleep and have lots of food.

The Best Time to Trek to Langtang Valley

The best time to do the Langtang valley trek is September to November and March to May. These months have clear skies and a lovely climate. You can also do the Langtang valley trek in December, but there can be snowfall. Other months- June to August and January to February have unstable weather and poor trail conditions to do the Langtang valley trek.

With that being said, you can do this trek throughout the year if you do not mind a bit of extra discomfort. Properly prepare as per the season you are trekking in. If you select to do the Langtang valley trek in the offseason, give extra attention to the clothing and gear you pack.

Langtang Valley Trek in Spring

Spring season goes from March to May. It is a great time to trek to Langtang valley. The snow begins to melt. The rivers, streams, waterfalls, and lakes are bruting with water. The forests are filled with rhododendrons and other wildflowers.

The weather is mostly stable, and the mountain views are phenomenal. The temperature ranges from 10°C-20°C (50°F-68°F) during the daytime. Whereas mornings and nights are on the colder side.

Langtang Valley Trek in Summer/Monsoon

Summer/monsoon season, i.e., June to August, is the worst in terms of weather among all other seasons. However, trekkers who are into vegetation, bugs, and birds do the Langtang trek during this time of the year. It is a great time to learn about the rich biodiversity of the Langtang region.

Mornings are usually foggy. The views may get obstructed by clouds. The trails are muddy and slippery. There are also risks of landslides. The daytime is hot, especially in the lower part of the trail. The temperature can reach 30°C (86°F) and above on sunny days. Likewise, in the upper part of the trail, the temperature ranges around 10.2°C (50.36°F).

Langtang Valley Trek in Autumn

Autumn- September to November is a great time to do the Langtang valley trek. It is, in fact, the best time to go on this trek. The stable weather, moderate climate, and excellent views make trekking phenomenal. The forests are stunning, with various hues of browns, reds, and orange. The air is fresh and crisp.

The temperature ranges from 10°C-15°C (50°F-59°F). Mornings and nights are a bit colder but still bearable. Pack a few warm clothing pieces. You will also get to see the biggest festival of Nepalese in autumn. Different Jatras, Dhashain, Tihar, Chhath, etc, festivals fall in the autumn season.

Langtang Valley Trek in Winter

Winter trekking is tough but possible. With extra care and packing, you can enjoy magical winter trekking to the Langtang valley. Winter is an off-season with unpredictable weather and a cold climate. The views are obstructed because of fog sometimes. However, the daytime is warm, making the walk okay.

The temperature in the winter season ranges from 6°C-9°C (42.8°F-48.2°F) during the day. The nights and mornings are much colder, and temperature drops below 0°C. There will be snow falls all around the trails. Regardless of all the difficulties, the mountain views are out of this world during the winter season. It is unlike any other time of the year.

Additional Trek Tips

  • Internet: There is WiFi in some tea houses/guest houses along the Langtang valley trail. You can get this service by paying a few extra bucks. The connection may not be reliable all the time. Another alternative is getting a local Nepali sim with data. Again, you may have to face an unstable network.
  • Hot Shower: During the Langtang valley trekking, you may get a few opportunities to take hot showers. Of course, this service also costs additional money and is not covered in the package cost. There can be days when you will not get a chance to shower, so carry body wipes to keep yourself refreshed.
  • Charging: Charging stations are made separately in the guesthouses. It is usually around the reception or dining area. The guest house charges USD 2 to USD 3 per device/charging slot. You can bring power banks and spare batteries for backup.
  • ATM: There is no ATM on the Langtang valley trail, so withdraw ample Nepali cash in Kathmandu to use during trekking. You will need extra money to buy the above services and additional snacks and drinks during trekking. The locals do not accept cards or foreign currency in the mountains.
  • Luggage: Do not pack more than 10 kg in your duffel bag and 5 kg in your day pack. This is our luggage limit per trekker. Our porters will carry the heavy duffel bags, whereas you will carry a day pack. Each porter carries 20 kg (load of two trekkers). If you are left with any extra luggage in Kathmandu, store them in your hotel's locker during trekking. It is a free service.

Guides and Porters on Langtang Velley Trek

Guides and porters are one the main parts of the Langtang valley trek in Nepal. They make the journey much more bearable and to be honest, possible. We, Mountain Ram Adventures, work with some of the most experienced and friendly trekking guides in the Langtang region.

As we have been working with our guides for over a decade, we talk highly about them. They are very experienced, well-trained, and reliable individuals with whom you can do the Langtang valley trek confidently.

Similarly, the porters are also the natives of the Langtang region. They are well-versed in the terrain and help you with the load. If you feel any discomfort during trekking, you can freely share it with your guide (team leader). He is in charge of your well-being in the mountains.

Tipping the on-field crew members

Tipping is a well-practiced culture in the tourism industry of Nepal. You are supposed to tip the tour guide, drivers, mountain guide, porter, and watchman at the end of their service. It is not compulsory but highly appreciated and expected.

If our crew makes your time in Nepal seamless and you are happy with their service, tip them as a gesture of Thank You. If you are not sure how much to tip, ask your guide, as he will be with you from the start to the end of the journey.

Langtang Valley Trek Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is necessary for the Langtang valley trek. It is an important part of the trip confirmation. Your travel insurance must cover emergency air evacuation and medical bills at least. We ask for travel insurance to help you during the crisis in the mountains.

Helicopter evacuation is the only quickest way to get you out of the Langtang region and bring you back to Kathmandu if needed. And travel insurance with adequate coverage will let us provide you with this service promptly.

Even though treks like this do not carry any major risks, you cannot overlook the nature of the Himalayas. You have to be prepared for the unseen circumstances!

Risks During Langtang Valley Trek

There is no risk during the Langtang valley trek, however we always remind our guests to be aware of their surroundings wherever they are traveling. As per the nature of the location you are traveling to, the Himalayas, in the case of the Langtang valley trek, you have to be cautious.

Be extra careful while you trek, as the terrain is rugged and steep in some places. Do not touch leaves and flowers without knowledge, and definitely do not eat them. Be on the marked trail and follow the instructions of your guide. You do not have to be rigid, but a bit of extra care will do no harm.

Stomach problems

The food and water are no doubt different in the mountains. Your team leader will make sure to take you to the best places for meals. On your side, pick dishes that will provide you energy to walk long hours and keep you filled.

We highly recommend having veg dishes as much as possible because they are fresher than meats. Eggs are acceptable. Likewise, you will have your reusable water bottle with you during Langtang valley trekking, so refill it and drink water only from your bottle.

We understand it might be quite tempting to drink water directly from a tap or stream along the trail, but you should better avoid it. It may give you indigestion or stomach ache. You can use a water purification tablet for protection.

Personal Expenses

Apart from the Langtang valley trek package cost, there are many other expenses related to this trip. You have to get international flight tickets, buy travel insurance, trekking clothes and gear, tip guides & porters, shop, etc. Likewise, you may also wish to extend your time in Kathmandu or buy additional services during trekking.

All these things require extra money, which falls into your personal expenses. We highly suggest you thoroughly go through our cost include and exclude section on this page. It will give you a clear idea of what things are covered in the package cost and what not. You can budget the rest of the expenses as per that.

Arrival Complications

If you have any change in your flight schedule or your arrival time at Kathmandu airport, inform us as soon as you can. It will help us reschedule your airport pick-up time and other reservations in Kathmandu.

Likewise, if you can't find our representative at the airport, contact us on the number we have given you. You can ask airport authorities for help. Although this is quite less likely to happen, it is better to know what to do in a situation like this.

Emergency Contact

This number is +977 9851074270 our emergency contact number that you can reach out to any time in case you need support. You can find us on WhatsApp and Viber using this number. Feel free to call us or text this number. Likewise, our office number is +977 1 4701168. You can reach out during office hours- 10 AM to 6 PM. Similarly, you can write to us at info@mountainramadventures.com.

Visas Requirements

Foreign travelers have to get a travel visa to enter Nepal. The good thing is it is easy to obtain. You can apply for a Nepali travel visa at the Nepal Embassy or Consulate Office in your country. Likewise, you can also get a travel visa upon landing at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu.

This is called an on-arrival travel visa, and travelers from most of the country are eligible for it. You can check on the Nepal Immigration site whether your country is eligible for an on-arrival visa or not. Make sure you have all the necessary documents for this visa, including the visa fee.

*Note: Mountain Ram Adventures is not responsible for a visa. If you fail to obtain the visa, we cannot do anything. No refund will be made for canceling the trip at the last moment. Check out our terms and conditions regarding refund.

Laundry

In Kathmandu, there are many laundry service providers. You can find lots of options in Thamel as well. You can also ask your hotel for the laundry service. It will cost you a few bucks as per the number of clothes. During trekking, laundry is not a viable option.

You may not get to wash your clothes and air dry them on time. There are no washing machines in the guesthouse or tea houses along the Langtang Valley trail. Therefore, pack enough clothes to last throughout your trip and do laundry after coming back to Kathmandu.

Money Exchange

You can easily exchange money in banks or at money exchange centers in Thamel or any tourist areas. Stay updated with the current exchange rate, and make sure to pick the authorized money exchange center. Similarly, you can withdraw money from an ATM using your international cards in Kathmandu or any other part of Nepal.

Emergency Fund

Keep your emergency fund easily accessible and safe. This is a safety net for you if you have to extend the trip or need it for something unseen.

"Visiting/trekking in Nepal? Mountain Ram Adventures is the place to contact"
When I began to plan our trek to Nepal, I came across a clip on u-tube featuring Ram (owner of Mountain Ram Adventures) and felt an immediate connection & began corresponding with him. Ram radiates the love of his country & his work and is always willing to answer just one more question. His advice was very professional, taking into consideration the needs of our small group of 3 women. Once we decided upon the 9 day Langtang Trek, planning went into high gear. He provides literally full service, from airport to hotel, equipment, etc. Having written to several other companies, I can say that his prices are excellent and he provided all that was promised, and much more! We felt that all the logistics were totally taken care of and left us free to totally enjoy. Once we had arrived in Kathmandu, Ram was always available to answer questions & make suggestions. The package included a full day guided tour in Kathmandu which was excellent & I highly recommend. The down sleeping bags & jackets he provided were in excellent condition The trek itself was an amazing combination of fabulous views, landscapes and meeting the local people. Our guide, Pawan and 2 porters, Bidur & Bushan, were a big part of the success. Pawan was totally flexible & adapted the trek to our needs. It was a trip of a lifetime, thanks to Ram and his staff. Just waiting for my lottery win & I\'ll be back in Nepal, trekking with Ram. If you want more details of the trek itself, feel free to contact me. ltk@bezeqint.net

Posted on Trip Advisor: Re: Trekking guide Sep 28, 2013, 5:24 AM Just returned 2 days ago from Kathmandu & a 9 day trek in Langtang. As we were three 55+ women, we wanted the comfort of making arrangements ahead of time. We completed all the arrangements by email, before departing home. We were all extremely pleased with the services of Ram Sharan Upreti, the owner and manager of Ram Mountain Adventures in Kathmandu. His prices are extremely reasonable. We booked a package with him, including pickup & return to airport, a hotel in Kathmandu, the services of an experienced English speaking guide and 2 porters for our trek. Everything that was promised was provided and more. All with a smile! I can\'t stress enough the importance of an experienced guide (our guide was Pawan Lamsal) that allowed us the flexibility while on the trek to extend or shorten our hiking days, as well as generous amounts of patience and kindness, that made anything doable. Both young porters (Bidur & Bushan) were also extremely friendly and helpful and spoke some English. You\'ll also find him on utube by typing in his name. Most important - enjoy every moment. It is an amazing country with gorgeous landscapes and gentle, kind people. Best, Lynn, Hana I. & Hana S.
