As you will be arriving in Kathmandu through the Tribhuvan International Airport for the adventurous Helambu Valley Trek the Mountain Ram Adventures officials will be waiting for your arrival at the terminal. The team members will be assisting you with your baggage and transferring you from the airport to your designated hotel in the Thamel area. The clients can freshen up and rest after their journey or explore the touristic area of Thamel which offers the travelers authentic local experiences with some hints of western influence.
On the second day of the trip the clients will be heading out for a sightseeing tour where they will be visiting four of the seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites within Kathmandu Valley. The clients will be accompanied by an experienced cultural English speaking guide who will be well knowledgeable about the history, myths and factual details about the monuments and will be sharing it with the clients. The trip will begin after breakfast and will end at around the evening time of 4-5 PM after which the clients will be dropped back to their hotel. The clients will be meeting with the Mountain Ram Adventures team for a short briefing about the Helambu Valley Trek.

Swayambhunath
Swayambhunath is a beautiful site serving as a pivotal site for the Buddhist and Hindu community for at least 1500 years. The site is located at the western part of Kathmandu on top of the Goshringa Hill. The visitors can explore the site after climbing a flight of 365 stairs. On top of the hill there is a dome shaped Stupa surrounded by shrines and temples which increases the beauty of the site. The Swayambhunath is also known as the monkey temple as the area is swarmed by monkeys who usually don't oppose any threat until provoked. The visitors can admire the views of the Kathmandu valley and the nearby vista complimented by the lush green hills and the Himalayas if the weather is favorable.
Pashupatinath Temple
Pashupatinath Temple is considered to be the most sacred temple in the whole of Nepal and hundreds of worshipers visit the site for religious and pilgrimage purposes. The Pashupatinath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva (Lord of Destruction). The Pashupatinath Temple is surrounded by various other small temples dedicated to other Hindu gods carrying immense significance for the Hindu community. The temple is situated beside the holy river of Bagmati and its bank serves as one of the worlds largest open cremation sites of the Hindu community. It is widely believed that devotees who get cremated here find their paths easily to the next life(reincarnation). The Pashupatinath Temple's main area can only be accessed by the people of the Hindu community and tourists are not allowed within the main area as well as clicking photos is strictly prohibited for everyone within the main vicinity of the temple.
Boudhanath Stupa
Boudhanath Stupa is one of the largest dome shaped stupa in the world carrying religious and cultural significance for the devotees who follow the teachings of Buddhism. The stupa is visited by thousands of devotees every year and is located within the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu city just 4 KM north from the center of the city. The Boudhanath Stupa is believed to be built during the early 13th century and falls in the ancient trade route which connected Tibet with Kathmandu valley.
Patan Durbar Square
The architectural marvel which served as the residence of the royal's of the Malla Dynasty who reigned from 12th century to 18th century AD within the Kathmandu Valley. The Patan Durbar Square is a concentrated area which contains some of the most iconic landmarks which reflect the architectural prowess of ancient Nepal. There are various Temples, Shrines, Hitis, Courtyards and Palace. There is also a museum within the Durbar Square where there are sculptures, paintings, carvings etc from 12th-18th century preserved.
On our third day of the trip we will begin our comfortable trek. We will be heading towards Sundarijal from Kathmandu which is around 1 hour drive from Kathmandu. After hiking for about 30-40 minutes we will reach the checkpost of the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park. After gaining around 1550 meters in altitude we will reach a small Tamang settlement Mulkara from where we will be heading towards Chisapani which is across a small hilly ridge. We will be staying in Chisapani for the night from where the Himalayas and the nearby vista will be seen pristine and beautiful.
The trek from Chisopani to Kutumsang begins after having a filling breakfast. The hike will take us around 6-7 in total for a distance of 13.6 KM filled with scenic views of the Himalayan Vista from the picturesque terrace farmlands of the Locals built in the slopes of the Hills. We will be crossing the settlements of Pathi Bhanjyang and Gul Bhanjyang. After reaching Gul Bhanjyang we will be ascending towards a ridge leading towards a Pass after which we will descend to the other side reaching Kutumsang where we will be resting for the night.
The trek from Chisopani to Kutumsang begins after having a filling breakfast. The hike will take us around 6-7 in total for a distance of 13.6 KM filled with scenic views of the Himalayan Vista from the picturesque terrace farmlands of the Locals built in the slopes of the Hills. We will be crossing the settlements of Pathi Bhanjyang and Gul Bhanjyang. After reaching Gul Bhanjyang we will be ascending towards a ridge leading towards a Pass after which we will descend to the other side reaching Kutumsang where we will be resting for the night.
The trek from Tharepati to Melamchi Gaon will begin after having a nutritious breakfast. The hike will be an easy comfortable downhill one as we will be descending around 1440 M in altitude through the dense green forest filled with off beaten trails. The hike down will take us to Melamchi Gaon which is a small scattered village filled with beautiful farmlands of the local communities. The trekkers can enjoy the beautiful landscapes seen from the Melamchi Gaon.
After basking in the views from the Melamchi Gaon in the morning we will be heading towards Tarke Gyang. The hike from Melamchi Gaun will be filled with the scenic views of the himalayan vista. The trekkers will be hiking through the dense lush green forest filled with streams and beautiful waterfalls making it a tranquil and blissful experience. After hiking for 4-5 hours we will reach the Tarke Ghangyul where we will be staying the night.
On our 8th day of the trip we will be heading from Tarke Ghangyul towards Sermanthang. The trail is filled with Buddhist Gompas which the trekkers can explore for a bit. After hiking for 2 hours from Tarke Ghangyul we will reach Ghangyul where we will be resting for a bit and exploring the Ghangyul Gompa. After exploring the Gompa we will continue our trek and reach the Chimi stupa which comes just around 5-10 minutes before reaching the village of Chimi where we will be exploring the Chimi Gompa and after trekking for 4-5 hours in total we will finally reach Sermathang. There are also quite a few beautiful monasteries in Sermathang which the trekkers can explore as we will be staying in Sermathang for the night.
The hike from Sermangthan will be a comfortable descent of 1650 M taking us around 4-5 hours in total. The hike will begin after having our breakfast and exploring the Sermangthan village. The trek will take us through beautiful landscapes and Buddhist monuments including Palri Padma Odsal Ling (Guru Rinpochhe statue), Buddhist Monastery Thangpal after which we will reach Buddha Park which will lead us to Kakani Bhanjyang. We will be resting for a bit in Kakani Bhanjyang and having our lunch, after replenishing our energy we will be heading towards Melamchi Pul Bazar. The hike down to Melamchi Bazar was the last stretch of the trek marking the completion of the trek. We will be staying in Melamchi Bazar for the night.
After a hearty breakfast in Melamchi Bazar enjoying the views of the Melamchi Khola we will be heading towards Kathmandu in a 4WD vehicle. The journey from Melamchi Bazar to Kathmandu is around 45 KM and will take us around 3 hours. The first half of the journey will be through the bumpy offroads after which we will be traveling on smooth black topped roads until we reach our designated hotel in the Thamel area. The trekkers will be dropped at their hotel after which they can freshen up and explore the Kathmandu city as it will be their last day in Kathmandu. The Mountain Ram Adventures team will be hosting a dinner marking the success of the Helambu Valley Trek where the trekkers will be provided with a certificate honoring the successful journey of the Helambu Valley Trek with the team.
As the Helambu Valley Trek with the Mountain Ram Adventures team has been successfully completed the team will be transferring you at the international terminal of the Tribhuvan International Airport for your departure. The representatives will be picking you up in a private vehicle and assisting you with the checkout procedures and loading your luggages in the vehicle. Make sure to provide our representatives with feedback on the trip to ensure our growth. The team representatives will be bidding you farewell after unloading your luggages. During the Helambu Valley Trek we will be trekking to an altitude of 3640 M at Tharepati from where we can see the spectacular views of the Himalayas and the surrounding vista. The trek is a comfortable one as it takes us to an elevation of 3640 M at which the risk of altitude sickness is extremely low. The trekkers need not to worry much about the trek and can focus on trekking according to their own pace enjoying the views as they will be accompanied by their guide who will be assisting them for the entirety of the trek making the journey as comfortable as possible.
Yes, during the Helambu Valley Trek drinking water is available in the local tamang and Sherpa settlements throughout the routes of the trek. The trekkers are strongly suggested to drink water after filtering it only as the trek can become excruciating if the trekkers consume water directly from the water source. The trekkers are requested to carry a water bottle/ Thermos for their trek as trekkers need to consume at least 3-4 liters of water each day to avoid dehydration.
To participate in the Helambu Valley Trek there are no current age restrictions to participate in the Helambu Valley Trek or in Nepal as a whole. The trekkers are suggested to however carry their vaccine cards and required documents while traveling as the airlines and transit countries policies might be different from that of Nepal. During the trek the trekkers can encounter different wildlife of the midlands and Himalayan region like the Himalayan Black Bear, Musk Deer, Snow Leopard, Red Panda and some species of monkeys including gray Langur are some of the animals found in the region. The Helambu Region also homes around 200 wild species of birds including Himalayan Monal, Koklass Pheasant, White-tailed nuthatch, black-throat sunbird, Himalayan Cuckoos and Satyr Tragopan are some notable bird species of the Helambu region. The trekkers are suggested to carry a pair of binoculars for the trip if they are interested in bird watching as the Helambu region offers golden opportunity to encounter the majestic creatures.
During the rise of any unfortunate events the trekkers will be assisted by the team members who will be well equipped with basic first aid kits, the guides and team leaders will be licensed and are provided with basic medical training for such instances. The team will first of all assess their condition and try to mitigate the situation to the best of their ability. If the situation worsens then the trekkers will be transferred to a hospital in Kathmandu via helicopter.
Yes, the Helambu Valley Trek is possible even if the trekkers are vegetarian as there is a wide option of meals of various cuisines available during the trek which are prepared by the locals using locally produced crops. The trekkers are however suggested to inform their guides and representatives before the starting of the trip to ensure there is no misunderstanding during the operation of trek.
During the Helambu Valley Trek the oxygen level will be around 60% of sea level. The atmospheric pressure and oxygen level will be felt slightly by the trekkers which is considered normal and does not oppose much threat of altitude related illnesses. The trekkers are requested to inform their guides and team leaders if they feel any symptoms of altitude sicknesses.
During the Helambu Valley Trek the trekkers will be covering a total of around 72 KM in the span of 9 days. The trekkers will be trekking for around 5 hours on average per day. The trekkers are suggested to trek according to their own pace enjoying the scenic views of the Himalayas and the beautiful landscapes. The guides will be assisting the clients for the trek so the trekkers can just focus on trekking according to their own pace and enjoying the scenery.
During the Helambu Valley Trek the trekkers will find both western as well as squat toilets in the accommodations of the trekking route. The toilets can differ from one to another accommodations and we the Mountain Ram Adventures will ensure or try our best to provide the trekkers with their preference during the trek. The trekkers will be assigned a Twin sharing room with attached bathrooms with most probably western toilets in them.
