The trek starts in the town of Syabrubesi and heads up river, through the dense pine, bamboo and rhododendron forests of the 1,170 km sq Langtang National Park, teeming with wildlife and exotic bird species. Further up the valley as the forest gives way to the alpine meadows around Kyanjin Gompa, you will be sure the see yak grazing (lang is the Tibetan word for yak and teng means to follow), whilst being reward with outstanding mountain views, seemingly only a stone's throw away.

The lakes are considered holy by both Hindus and Buddhists alike and many Hindus make the pilgrimage to bathe in the lakes during the August full moon festival of Janai Purnima.

We will then head over the Laurebinayak pass and down through steep terraced countryside to the Shivapuri National Park, just north of Kathmandu. The area is home to Tamang, Newari and Chhetri people and is a wonderful example of Nepal's harmonious ethnic diversity.
