Pisang peak climbing with Annapurna circuit

Our 21 days Pisang peak climbing itinerary not only climb a peak in the Annapurna region but also combines Annapurna circuit trekking. You will be back at the Pisang peak base camp by day 12th, and from onwards begins our adventurous trek to Thorong La pass and beyond.

From the base camp, the trail descends to Manang village and ascends to Yak Kharka via Tenki village. You will head out of Marshyangdi valley and trek following the narrow trails of Jar Sang Khola valley to Yak Kharka. Trekking via pastures and steep, rocky trails, stop at Thorong Phedi before climbing Thorong La pass.

The top of the pass is known for its jaw-dropping landscape. Now the trail descends to Muktinath temple and continues along the Kali Gandaki river gorge to Kagbeni. Trek past beautiful white-washed houses and narrow alleys to Jomsom village, where the trek ends and fly to Pokhara.

Add the Tilicho Lake excursion to the itinerary

Instead of trekking from Manang to Yak Kharka, you can take a detour to Tilicho Lake if you have 3-4 days extra in your hand. Tilicho Lake is a high-altitude lake and the second-highest lake in Nepal at 4,960 meters. The route to the lake goes past glaciers and landslide debris areas.

Pisang peak location and climbing history

Pisang Peak is located in the Annapurna region of Nepal, in the Manang District. It is part of the Himalayas and has an elevation of 6,091 meters (19,980 feet), and the coordinates are 26°38'57''N / 84°11'25''E.

Pisang Peak has a relatively short climbing history. It was first climbed in 1955 by a German Expedition team led by Franz Kniest and Toni Kinshofer. Since then, the peak has become a popular destination for trekkers and climbers due to its accessibility and moderate difficulty level.

Pisang Peak can be climbed via two different routes- the north ridge, which is considered the standard route, and the southwest ridge. Both routes have strong physical fitness, and climbers must be prepared for cold temperatures, high altitudes, and changing weather conditions.

Distance & terrain

The Pisang peak climbing involves the Annapurna circuit trail. Apart from the climbing part, the trek covers a distance of approximately 160-230 kilometers (100-145 miles), depending on the specific route taken and any side trips added. The duration of the trek varies from 12-17 days, as per the pace of the trekker and the itinerary.

The terrain is diverse and challenging. The trek starts in the lowlands and follows the Marsyangdi River, passing through subtropical forests, rice paddies, and traditional villages. As the trek gains altitude, the terrain becomes more rugged and rocky, with steep ascents and descents, and the climate became colder and drier.

Before starting our journey, we make sure to carry enough waste management supplies such as garbage bags, hand sanitizers, and reusable containers. We will also plan ahead and minimize our waste generation by bringing reusable water bottles and avoiding single-use plastics.

During the journey, we pack all our waste, including biodegradable waste such as food scraps. We will dispose of our waste properly in designated trash bins or carry it with us until we reach a proper disposal area.

After descending back to the high camp and base camp, we will assess the area and clean up any waste left by us or previous climbers. We will make sure that we leave the campsite in a better condition than we found it, by picking up any trash or debris and disposing of it properly.

This not only keeps the environment clean but also ensures that the area remains safe and hygienic for future climbers!
