Annapurna Circuit Short Trek is an inimitable journey which takes us through the heart of the Annapurna Conservation Area providing mesmerizing views of the mountains of three different mountain ranges consisting of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Manaslu Himalayan Range along the trail. The 14 day long trip takes us through one of the highest mountain passes of Nepal, the Thorong La pass at an altitude of 5416 M. The Thorong La pass connects the village of Manang in Manang district in the east with the village of Ranipauwa and Muktinath Temple in Mustang district in the west. After entering the northern side we will be trailing down to the Kali Gandaki river Gorge, the deepest in the world which sits at a difference of 5571 M from the riverbed to the peak of Annapurna 1 at an elevation of 8091 M.
Annapurna Circuit Short Trek is one of the most popular trekking routes in Nepal or even at the international market. The majestic views of the landscapes blended with the diverse range of flora and fauna combined with the hospitable nature of the locals create a once in a lifetime journey through the heart of the Northern central Himalayas of Nepal. The trek takes us through the dry alpine forest in the north (rain shadow area) after only passing the subtropical lowlands including ancient lush rhododendron forests in the south. The vegetation of the area depends on the climate which ranges through the altitude.
The Annapurna Circuit Short Trek with the Mountain Ram Adventures team is a stress free journey during which all the necessary arrangements for the trip are made beforehand for a comfortable journey through the Himalayas. The team assigned for the journey will be experienced ensuring the client’s safety and wonderful adventure to the Himalayas.
Upon the arrival of the guests at the Tribhuvan International Airport for their upcoming adventure to the Annapurna Circuit with the Mountain Ram Adventures Team the representatives will be waiting for them at the terminal and will be welcoming them to Nepal. The team will be helping the guests to load up their luggage in the private vehicle through which the clients will be transferred into their hotel in the Thamel area. After checking into their hotel the guests can rest in their room or explore the city as there are various places to explore within the capital city of Kathmandu.
On our second day we will be heading towards Besisahar after having our breakfast. Besisahar is around 180 KM West from Kathmandu and will take us around 6-7 hours for us to reach. The drive from Kathmandu to Besisahar will be a scenic one through the blacktopped roads carved along the hills along the Trisuli River and Marsyangdi River valley. Besisahar is also the capital of Lamjung District which is majorly occupied by the people of the Gurung community. After a comfortable smooth ride we will be taking a public jeep to Dharapani which is bumpy but interesting. The drive is about 3 hours so we reach at Dharapani around 6 pm and stay at the tea house / Lodge for the night.
We will begin our third day of the journey with a hearty breakfast while enjoying the majestic views of the Himalayas of the Annapurna and Manaslu Himalayan Range. After having our breakfast we will be heading towards Chame on foot so the actual trek starts here. There is a road that continues to Chame but we are here to walk so we trek and start addapting the altitude which will help us on the higher region. The trek will be memorable as we will be enjoying the scenic views of the deep valleys, high Himalayas, waterfalls for 5-6 hours. We will have quite a bit of time to spend, so we will be exploring the village or rest in our rooms.
On our fourth day of the journey we will officially begin our trekking as we will be heading towards Upper Pisang which will take us around 5 hours. We will be covering a total distance of 15 KM. The trekking trail to Upper Pisang is shared with the motorway which connects all the way to Manang village. The trek will be filled with scenic views of the Himalayas and the Trisuli River Valley. We will be passing through the dense Rhododendron forest and some small beautiful settlements including Talekh, Bhratang and Dhukur Pokhari. Dhukur Pokhari is a renowned spot to observe the views of the snow capped peaks including Chulu peak (6584 M), Pisang Peak (6091 M), Annapurna II (7937M), Tilicho Peak (7134 M). After a beautiful trek through the relatively comfortable incline trek we will reach Upper Pisang where we will be staying for the night.
The trek from Pisang to Manang will be one of the most beautiful days which will begin after having our breakfast. We will be heading towards Manag village which is the administrative headquarter of the Manang District. We will be heading towards Manang via the beautiful settlements of Ngawal, Ghyaru, Humde and Braga which will lead us to the beautiful village of Manang. Before reaching Manang Village we will be exploring the ancient monastery of Braga village (Bhrakkaa Monastery) which is also the biggest monastery of the Manang district. After exploring the monastery we will ascend through a comfortable trail filled with the scenic views of Annapurna Massifs, Fishtail, Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri eventually leading us to Manang Bazar. Manang Bazar is the biggest settlement of the Manang District majorly occupied by the people of the Gurung community.
Note: There are laundry services in Manang villages and as we will be spending an extra day for acclimatization the facility of laundry can be used ensuring our clothes will be dry for use during the next day. The cost of the Laundry is not covered by the team and is the personal expense of the trekkers.
The 6th day of our journey will be spent in Manang Bazaar acclimatizing for the upcoming hike to Thorang La at 5416 M. We will be spending our day in Manang Bazaar by relaxing and participating in a short Hike to Praken Gompa(3945 M) which will take us around 4 hours and better acclimatize for the upcoming hikes. The Praken Gompa’s interior is beautiful as it is designed with the meticulous paintings and murals dedicated to the faith of Buddhism. After exploring the magnificent Gompa we will be heading back towards Manang Bazaar enjoying the views of the Annapurna 2, Tarke Kang, Ganga Purna. After reaching Manang Village we will be exploring the village and enjoying our time relaxing and engaging with the locals.
The trek from Manang to Yak Kharka will begin after a nutritious breakfast as the ascending trail to Yak Kharka is challenging. We will be trekking to an elevation of 4020 M. we will be trekking through the off beat trail which will take us to Tanki after which we will be crossing the Marshyangdi River via a suspension bridge ending our adventure in the Marshyangdi valley. The trail after the suspension bridge is inclined all the way to Yak Kharka. We will be trekking for around 5 hours in total and will be staying in a cozy tea house enjoying the evening views of the High Himalayas.
The trek from Yak Kharka to Thorung Phedi is filled with steep inclines which will begin shortly after having our breakfast . We will be trekking through the rugged terrains of the landslide zone which leads us to Ledar (4200M). The trek from Yak Khark to Thorung Phedi will be around 7 KM long during which we will be gaining around 450 M in altitude. As we gradually ascend towards Thorung Phedi the trails get narrower. The altitude of Thorung Phedi is around 4400 M at which it can get difficult to breath causing lightheadedness and if you are feeling any difficulty make sure to inform your team representatives so they can regulate the situation. After a challenging trek of 4-5 hours we will eventually reach Thorung Phedi where we will be getting our well deserved rest for the night.
The trek on our 9th day will be the most challenging hike of our entire Annapurna Circuit short Trek journey as we will be hiking to Thorong Pass at an elevation of 5416 M and connect the Manang district in the east to Muktinath in Mustang district to the west. The trail from Thorong Phedi to Thorong Pass begins with a zig zag steep ascent which leads all the way to Thorong La. We will be trekking slowly, navigating our way through the harsh conditions of the Himalayas. We might feel a bit lightheaded which is normal due to the elevation but make sure to inform your guides about it. Trekking through the strenuous terrains we will finally reach Thorung la from where we can enjoy the 360 degrees panoramic views of the Himalayas. After enjoying the views we will be descending towards Muktinath, which is a small settlement area famous among the followers of Hinduism who visit there to get blessing from the Temple of Muktinath dedicated to Lord Vishnu who is considered to be the preserver and protector of the universe. We will be staying in Muktinath in a cozy Guest house resting well after a long strenuous trek of 8-10 hours.
About Muktinath:The temple of Muktinath is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the god of preservation and is one of the most revered sites for the Hindu community in Nepal. The temple witnesses thousand’s of devotees arriving to receive their blessing every year navigating through the harsh terrains of Manang and Mustang. According to the Hindu community it is believed that Lord Vishnu was turned into a Shaligram Shila (fossilized ammonite stone found in the Kali-Gandaki region and worshiped by the Hindu community believing it to be a form of Lord Vishnu) by Brindha after which Lord Vishnu seeked refuge amidst the Himalayas in the Muktinath region and got salvation from the curse whilst there. Muktinath also comprised two words “Mukti” and “Nath” which means Salvation and Lord respectively. The Muktinath region is also significant for the Buddhst community as it is believed that Guru Rinpoche who is a revered monk believed to spread the teaching of Buddhsm in Tibet meditated in Muktinath during his travel in the region. There is also a 35 feet big statue of Buddha in Muktinath symbolizing the significance for the Buddhist community as well.
After a well earned rest we will be heading towards Tatopani by a public bus through the Beni JomsomHighway along the Kali Gandaki Gorge which is also the deepest Gorge in the world between two mighty eight thousand peaks of Dhaulagiri (8167 M) and Annapurna (8091 M) in which the elevation from the river bed to the summit of Annapurna 1 is 5571 M. we will begin our bus ride after visiting the temple of Muktinath and having or breakfast. The journey will be around 70 KM long passing through the stunning landscapes of the Mustang region which falls in the Rain-Shaded Area of the Annapurna region. We will be passing through some of the beautiful settlements including Jomsom, Marpa, Ghasa and eventually Tatopani. After a scenic drive we will reach Tatopani which is renowned for its hot spring utilized by the trekkers after their beautiful and tiring journey through the Himalayas. After soaking in the hot water washing away the pain we will be checking into our accommodation for the night.
On our eleventh day of our journey we will be heading towards Ghorepani which will take us around 6 hours passing through the lush green forests of the lower Annapurna Region filled with Rhododendron and Oak trees. We will be passing through small settlements including Khibang, Paudwar and Shikla along our hike to Ghorepani. We will be trekking through the offbeat trail filled with the shades of the lush green forests. We will be covering a total of 19.8 KM which will be comfortable as the ascents are comfortable to get past. After a tranquil trek we will eventually reach Ghorepani which is a beautiful settlement of the Magar community. We will be staying in a cozy teahouse at night resting a bit early as we will be heading to Poon Hill in the early morning for sunrise.
On our 12th day of the journey we will be heading towards Poon Hill before dawn to observe the spectacular views of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Himalayas at the golden hours of dawn. We will be hiking up for 1 hour reaching Poon Hill and enjoying the views after which we will head back to Ghorepani and have our breakfast and head towards Nayapul to catch our ride back to Pokhara. The journey from Ghorepani to Nayapul will take us around 6 hours of trek covering a distance of 13 KM which will be the last stretch of our trek for our entire journey marking an end to the adventurous Annapurna Circuit short Trek. After reaching Nayapul we will be heading towards Pokhara on a private vehicle using which we will be transferred to our accommodation site in the Lakeside area. The journey to Pokhara will be around 1.5 hours long after which we will be checking into our hotel and freshen up and explore the beautiful city of Pokhara. The Lakeside area is situated at the bay of the Phewa Lake providing the visitors a tranquil experience. There are various cafes, restaurants, pubs and many more facilities where we can relax at the shore of the lake.
On our 13th day of our journey we will be heading back towards the capital city, kathmandu via the Prithivi highway connecting Pokhara and Kathmandu and stretching for around 210 KM. We will be traveling along the scenic curvy roads on a comfortable Tourist Bus which will take us around 6-7 hours. The journey is filled with the scenic views of the lush green hills with scattered settlements of the people residing there. After a comfortable journey we will eventually reach Kathmandu after which we will be transferred to our hotel in the Thamel area. We will freshen up and explore the vibrant city of Thamel for a bit and will be meeting with the Mountain Ram Adventures team for a farewell dinner (complimentary). The team will be providing us with a certificate recognizing our successful completion of the Annapurna Circuit short Trek with the team. After enjoying the dinner we will be heading back to our hotel to rest or exploring the night life of Thamel.
The Annapurna Circuit Trek with the Mountain Ram Adventures is completed successfully and with all the adventure filled memories the team will be transferring the trekkers to the Tribhuvan International Airport for their international connection. The team will be assisting the clients with the hotel formalities and will be transferring the clients in a private vehicle during which the clients can share their honest review of their trip to the representatives which will ensure us to improve our service even further. The team will be bidding you farewell at the airport and will be patiently waiting for a call back for your next adventure to the Himalayas.

During the Annapurna Circuit Short Trek the trekkers will be trekking to a maximum altitude of 5416M at Thorong La where the oxygen level is around 50% of the sea level and feeling of lightheadedness is common. The trekkers are suggested to inform their team if they feel any discomfort or any symptoms of Altitude sickness so that the team can start to regulate the health condition of the trekkers and try to mitigate it. The trekkers are suggested to trek slowly according to their own pace and enjoy the beauty of the Himalayas.
Within the protected areas of Nepal solo trekking is prohibited as per the amendments of the rules by the concerned authorities as there was a spike in fatality rate in Solo trekkers. The solo trekkers must be accompanied by a licensed guide and porter if necessary. The Mountain Ram Adventures team accompanies solo trekkers and group trekkers and can accommodate the needs of the trekkers. If the team wants then they can also join the fixed departures of the Annapurna Circuit Short Trek with the Mountain Ram Adventures (if available).
The Annapurna Circuit Short Trek falls under the Moderate trekking grade and is filled with challenging ascents stretching to an altitude of 5416 M. The Annapurna Circuit Short trek can be done by beginner trekkers if accompanied by a skilled and experienced team to accompany them for their journey. The trek is also demanding and challenges the physical endurance so, the trekkers should be well prepared to tackle the harsh conditions of the Annapurna Himalayan Region.
There are no ATMs available in the trekking route of the Annapurna Circuit Short Trek due to which the trekkers are recommended to withdraw the required sum from ATMs available in Kathmandu valley. The ATMs depending upon the bank will be charging a certain fee per transaction ranging from around 3 to 6% as international transaction fee so the trekkers should be prepared for it as well. If the trekkers have cash with them and need to exchange it then they can exchange from the local Money Exchange vendors in the Thamel area. The trekkers are suggested to stay up to date about the exchange rate to get the best possible exchange rate.
All the travel restrictions are lifted in Nepal and travelers are free to roam freely as per the current policy. The trekkers need not to worry about the restrictions in Nepal but are requested to carry the necessary documents with them as the policies of Nepal might differ from the airlines policy or Transit country policies.
