Annapurna base camp short trek itinerary

The trek starts from Nayapul, which is a 1-2 hour drive from Pokhara and goes through several beautiful villages and forests. The first day of the trek is relatively easy and covers a distance of around 8.6 kilometers (5.3 miles) to Ghandruk village.

From Ghandruk, the trail becomes steeper and more challenging as it ascends towards Chhomrong, which is the gateway to the Annapurna Sanctuary. From Chhomrong, the trail descends to a river before climbing back up to Sinuwa at 2,360 meters (7,742 ft). On the second day, you will approximately cover 13 km (8 miles).

After Sinuwa, you will be trekking on an uphill trail to Deurali (3,230 m/10,597 ft). Trekking through lush rhododendron forests, you will pass by dense bamboo forests. On the way, you will trek past other settlements like Dovan and Himalaya. From Sinuwa to Deurali, the trail distance is 14 km (8.6 miles).

Further, the trail goes up to Annapurna Base Camp, following a mix of steep ascents and descents, rocky paths, and uneven terrain. The trail will take you through a river bed and ascend to Bagar crossing a bridge. After a few hours of trekking, you'll reach the base camp of Mt. Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) and continue your ascent to Annapurna base camp (4,130 m/13,549 ft).

We will start our trek early in the morning by leaving Kathmandu and taking a tourist bus to Pokhara. Pokhara is the second largest city in Nepal and serves as the gateway to the Annapurna region. The road from Kathmandu to Pokhara is well-made, and the ride offers a stunning panorama of waterfalls, lush hills, rivers, and terraces.

By late afternoon, we will reach Pokhara. You will have remaining time free to explore this beautiful city, take in the tranquility of Phewa Lake, and enjoy a breathtaking view of Fishtail (6,993 m). Like Thamel, Lakeside is a tourist hub in Pokhara. You can explore the bustling market and get ready to hit the trail the following day.

Once we have finished a delicious breakfast, we will begin our trek by taking a scenic around 1.5-hour drive from Pokhara to Nayapul. During the drive, we can enjoy a picturesque view of the beautiful green hills and mountains. Upon reaching Nayapul, which is at an elevation of 1,100 meters, we will start trekking toward Ghandruk.

The trail passes through farmlands, villages, forests, terraces, rice fields, and some suspension bridges. It takes around 4 to 5 hours to reach Ghandruk from Nayapul, passing through village settlements like Birethanti, Syauli Bazar, Chimrung, Chane, Kimche, and others.

Ghandruk village offers scenic views of snow-capped mountains like Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhre. In addition to the mountains, the rich ethnic Gurung culture and lifestyle in Ghandruk are also highlights of this place. The trails are not very challenging, so you can complete this trek section with ease.

After breakfast, we will begin our trek from Ghandruk to Sinuwa. The trail from Ghandruk to Chhomrong Danda has a gradual ascent. After reaching Chhomrong Danda, we will descend to Komrong Khola before ascending again to reach Chhomrong village, which is a large settlement.

From Chhomrong, the trail descends to a river before climbing back up to reach our final destination, Sinuwa. If the weather remains good, we will get to see some incredible views of snow-capped mountains from Sinuwa.

After having breakfast, we will begin our trek from Sinuwa to Deurali, following an uphill trail through lush forests. During this trek, we will pass through the beautiful settlement of Bamboo, which is well known for its bamboo forests. Walking through these forests is an amazing experience.

Along the way, we will come across other settlements like Dovan and Himalaya. The trails of this section of the trek are covered in lush forests. Trekking during the spring season is phenomenal as the entire forests get bloomed with different colors of rhododendron.

Once we reach Himalaya, we will steeply climb amid the dry forest. There is a river that follows the Deurali trail. On the way, we will come across a stunning waterfall formed by the same river. We can take a moment to enjoy the waterfall before continuing to Deurali.

The day has finally arrived for us to trek to the famous Annapurna Base Camp. We'll depart from Deurali after having breakfast and start trekking uphill. The trail will take us through a river bed and ascend to Bagar crossing a bridge. After a few hours of trekking, we'll reach the base camp of Mt. Machhapuchhre (Fishtail).

We'll have lunch at MBC and take in the breathtaking views of the snow-capped mountains. Then, we'll enter the Annapurna Sanctuary and trek for a few more hours until we reach our ultimate destination, the Annapurna base camp. The base camp is a magical place to watch the sunset with a 360-degree view of the entire Annapurna range.

We will spend the night at a tea house below the base camp, where you can relax and rest after the long day of trekking.

Leaving Annapurna base camp, the trail steeply descends along rocky trails and passes by Machhapuchhre base camp. Passing by Bagar, we will cross a bridge and walk along a riverbed to Deurali. From here, we will trek past a beautiful waterfall. The trail then goes through a dense rhododendron forest to Himalaya. Further, trekking via Dovan, we will walk through dense bamboo forests to Sinuwa.

Following breakfast at Bamboo, we'll begin trekking to Jhinu Danda. The trail is mostly downhill, so it will be a comfortable and easy walk. Along the way, we will pass through the same trails and villages that we encountered earlier during the trek. The trail descends via lush woods and farmlands.

After a pleasant trek, we will reach Jhinu Danda, which is famous for its natural hot springs. This hot spring is an excellent spot to relax your tired muscles after the long and exhausting trek. We will stay overnight at a teahouse in Jhinu Danda, which is considered one of the most enjoyable parts of the Annapurna Base Camp trek.

Today is the final day of our trekking. We will follow a plain and dusty road alongside the Modi Khola river from Jhinu Danda. It's a calm and leisurely walk up to Nayapul, which should take us around three hours to complete.

 

Once we reach Nayapul, our trekking adventure comes to an end. We will take a local jeep to drive back to Pokhara. The rest of the afternoon and evening will be free for you to spend as you wish. You can explore this beautiful city, take in the sights, and enjoy the local cuisine.

After having breakfast in Pokhara, we will leave the city and start our journey back to Kathmandu. We will be traveling on an air-conditioned tourist bus, and the route we will take will be the same as before, providing you with a comfortable and scenic ride.

Once we reach Kathmandu, our guide will drop you off at your hotel, and you can take your time to unpack and relax. Since this is your last day in Kathmandu, we highly recommend that you explore the local market and do some shopping to take back some memories.

In the late evening, we will meet you for the farewell dinner organized by Mountain Ram Adventure. During the dinner, we will present you with a trek certificate to acknowledge your achievement. You can spend your last night in Kathmandu as per your wish.

No, the Annapurna base camp is not harder than the Everest base camp. However, it also doesn't mean that ABC trek is any easier. If we take altitude, terrain, and number of trekking days into consideration, the ABC trek is a bit more doable.

Annapurna base camp short trek grade is moderate to difficult. The trail has a gradual pace and gets steep and rugged as the elevation increases.

No, you cannot trek to Annapurna base camp alone. ABC trek requires TIMS Card along with one another permit. As per the recently updated trekking policy, solo travelers cannot obtain a  TIMS Card by themselves. Either an independent licensed guide or a local trekking company like us can only help trekkers to get TIMS Card, which makes trekking alone in the Annapurna region not possible anymore.
