Kailash Mansarovar Yatra offers the travelers an inside to the Tibetan culture and lifestyle as well as an opportunity to explore some of the meticulously designed monasteries and cultural sites constructed centuries ago. The Tour designed by Mountain Ram Adventures covers most of the activities one can participate while exploring in the Kailash Region best suited for both adventure and pilgrimage travelers.
The journey begins from Kathmandu with a scenic off-road drive through the lush green hills of the Langtang National Park leading to Tibet followed by a smooth drive through the Trans-Himalayan Region and small beautiful towns leading us all the way to Lake Manasarovar and Darchen from where the trek to the holy Dolma La Pass begins. The tour is filled with the scenic views of the Holy Mount Kailash and surrounding peaks of the Gangdise Mountain Range.
Important Notice for Participate in the Tour
The trekkers participating with the Mountain Ram Adventures to Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar Yatra should contact the team before 5-6 working days for the visa application and submission to Tibet. As per the amendments of the policies by the Chinese Government the number of participants for the tour must be at least 4 to apply for a visa of Tibet. The travelers who are planning to obtain the group visa are also required to visit the Visa Application center for Biometrics verification.
We will be heading towards Kyirong from Kathmandu via the scenic highway leading us to the Nepal Tibet border in Rasuwa district. After all the immigration formalities at the border we will be entering Tibet and meeting without team members who will be giving us a short briefing and will be transporting us to our accommodation (Guest House) for the night in Kyirong town (Gyirong Town).
We will be staying in Kyirong for an extra day for acclimatization purposes during which we will be exploring the beautiful town as well visiting the Pakba Monastery. After exploring the beautiful town of Kyirong we will be returning back to our guest house for the night.
The drive from Kyirong to Saga is a long one during which we will be covering around 235 KM in total filled with the beautiful views of the temperate desert terrains. The drive is a beautiful one filled with the scenic views of Mount Shishapangma (8027M), Gaurishankar (7134M) and some of the peaks from the Langtang Himalayan Range. We will be greeted with the sight of beautiful lakes including Khunmen Tso, Peiku Tso and Karru Ongchen which will lead us to the bridge of Yarlung Tsangpo (longest river of Tibet) which we will be crossing to reach our destination Saga at an elevation of 4600 M. After a beautiful scenic drive we will checking in our designated guest House in Saga for the night.
The drive from Saga to Lake Manasarovar via Pryang is a long one as it will take us around 8-9 hours in total during which we will be covering around 510 KM in total. The drive begins as we head west from Saga passing through the small yet beautiful settlement of Zhongba leading us towards Paryang from where we will be greeted with the view of the Holy Mount Kailash for the first time. The drive continues as we head towards Lake Manasarovar, the monument of Chiu Monastery which sits on top of the steep red-colored Sangtok Pelri Mountain becomes visible. The beautiful views of the Manasarovar lake with the Kailash Range (Gangdise Mountains) and Gurla Mandhata (7694M) is unparalleled and with the stunning views of the Lake Rakshas which is beside the western side of Lake Manasarovar makes the views even more surreal. After a long drive we will be staying in a guest house or a Tented camp for the night.
After a good night's rest we will be enjoying the morning views of Lake Manasarovar with the picturesque view of Mount Kailash in the background. We will be heading towards Darchen which is a short drive from Lake Manasarovar of just around 40 KM. Darchen is also the starting point for the Kailash Kora Trek which is around 55 KM long and takes around 3 days/ 2 nights to complete. We will be staying in a Guest House in Darchen for the night enjoying the majestic views of the beautiful terrains.
We will begin our trek to Dira-Puk from Darchen which will take us around 6-7 hours during which we will be covering a total of 15-16 KM. We will be passing through the Yama Dwar marking the beginning of our trek. Tre trails to Dira-Puk are well maintained with steady offbeat trails which can be conquered without much stress. After a beautiful trek we will reach Dera-Puk where we will be staying for the night.
The trek to Zuthul-Puk via the Dolma La Pass at 5670 M which is the highest point of elevation for the entirety of our trip will be the most challenging stretch of our trek.The trek to Zuthul-Puk is a complicated one so, we will be trekking according to our own pace. After a hard yet beautiful trek we will reach Zuthul-Puk during Dusk. Zuthulu-Puk is famous for the cave where Milareppa meditated and the Milarepa Monastery. We will be staying in a guest house for the night getting our well deserved rest for the night.
Note: Trekkers can also rent horses if they find it difficult to trek. The Horse charge is paid by the trekkers directly to the herder and is not covered by the Mountain Ram Adventures team.
On the final day of our trek we will be having a very short trek and will be heading to Saga via a vehicle ride enjoying the scenic drive filled with the beautiful views of the Trans Himalayan Vista. After a scenic drive we will reach Saga and will be checking in to our Guest House and exploring the settlement of Saga.
As the Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar overland tour yatra is coming to an end we will be heading back towards the town of Kyirong where we will be staying the night and enjoying our last day in Tibet by exploring the town and enjoying the local delicacies. We will be staying in a cozy guest house for the night in Kyirong.
The trip to Tibet is finally coming to an end as we will be entering Nepal via the Kyirong Border connecting with the Rasuwa District of Nepal. After completing all the formalities at the border and bidding farewell to our team we will be heading back to Kathmandu in a scenic drive of 150 KM. The trekkers will be dropped back to the agreed upon location or the head office of the Mountain Ram Adventures team marking the end of the beautiful Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar Overland Tour.

The Chinese Visa, Tibet Travel Permit (TTP), Alien's Travel Permit (ATP), Military Area EntryPermit(MPS) and Foreign Affairs Permit (FAP) are required to participate in the Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar Overland Tour. The foreign citizens are not required to purchase the Langtang National Park Permit but the Tibet Travel Permit should be shown at the park entrance in Dhunche.
Traveling to Tibet is not possible without the travel agencies as per the policies of the concerned Chinese authorities. The travelers are therefore required to apply for the visa through a registered travel agency. The Mountain Ram Adventures team will be making all the travel arrangements required for the trip ensuring the smooth sailing of the trip to Tibet.
Kalash Yatra is a beautiful journey filled with captivating views of the Trans-Himalayan Region during which the Altitude can become a problem as the trekkers will be trekking up to an elevation of 5670 M at Dolma La Pass. The trekkers planning to trek should inform their concerned guides if any difficulty arises while trekking and be both physically and mentally prepared to withstand the conditions of the region.
The Guides and team members assigned by the Mountain Ram Adventures for the Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar Yatra are highly skilled and qualified with a lot of experience under their belt and can handle any circumstances which can arise during the tour in Tibet. The team representatives will be carrying a first aid kit with them for the journey as well ensuring the safety of the trekkers.
Summiting Mount Kailash is prohibited as per the rules and policies of the Chinese Government to preserve its spiritual significance and also due to its religious and cultural importance for the community of Hindu, Jains, Buddhist and Tibetan religion of Bon.
The travelers planning to travel to Tibet for the Kailash Yatra should firstly obtain a valid Chinese visa and other Tibet Travel Permits which can be obtained from the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu, Nepal. The trekkers planning to trek with the Mountain Ram Adventures should not need to worry as all the visa formalities will be taken care of by the team. However the trekkers planning to travel with the team should contact the team before 5-6 working days so the team can apply for the visa on behalf of the clients.
The best time to participate in the Kailash Manasarovar tour is during the months from April to June and September to October as the weather condition is favorable and stays stable without much fluctuation and the views of the Mount Kailash and surrounding peaks are much more visible during this time.
There is no age limit to participate in the Kailash Yatra with the Mountain Ram Adventures team however the travelers should be prepared to withstand the harsh conditions of the Trans-Himalayan region and the elevation as the highest point of elevation during the tour will be at Dolma La Pass at an altitude of 5670 M. There is an option of crossing the pass on a horse as well if the trekkers find it difficult to cross the Pass by trekking. Travelers under the age of 16 should be accompanied by their guardians for the Tibet tour with the team
The trekkers will be covering a total distance of around 45-50 KM during their three day trek beginning from Dira-Puk. The trek is a comfortable one filled with well maintained routes all the way during which the altitude might become a problem as we will be trekking to an elevation of 5670 M at the Dolma La Pass.
As the travelers will be trekking for three days through the Trans-Himalayan terrains the trekkers are suggested to stay fit for their journey. The trekking routes are well maintained and stable with steady inclines and decline which will not oppose any risks to the trekkers however the altitude plays a crucial role so the trekkers are suggested to stay relatively fit for the trek. The trekkers facing difficulty while trekking can also conquer the trail on a horse. The charge of the horse is not covered in the packages and the trekkers will be paying the horse herder directly for the service.
As the tour takes the travelers to an elevation of 5670 M the trekkers are suggested to carry the high altitude medicines with them. It is not compulsory as the guides and team members will be carrying a first aid kit with them containing the basic essentials. High Altitude medicines include Diamox, Zolamide which can be purchased from most of the Pharmacies around.
