Kailash Mansarovar Yatra offers the travelers an inside to the Tibetan culture and lifestyle as well as an opportunity to explore some of the meticulously designed monasteries and cultural sites constructed centuries ago. The journey begins from Kathmandu with a scenic off-road drive through the lush green hills of the Langtang National Park leading to Tibet followed by a smooth  drive through the Trans-Himalayan Region and small beautiful towns leading us all the way to Lake Manasarovar and Darchen from where the trek to the holy Dolma La Pass begins. The tour is filled with the scenic views of the Holy Mount Kailash and surrounding peaks of the Gangdise Mountain Range.

Important Notice for Participate in the Tour
The trekkers participating with the Mountain Ram Adventures to Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar Yatra should contact the team before 5-6 working days for the visa application and submission to Tibet. As per the amendments of the policies by the Chinese Government  the number of participants for the tour must be at least 4 to apply for a visa of Tibet. The travelers who are planning to obtain the group visa are also required to visit the Visa Application center for Biometrics verification.

We will be heading towards Kyirong from Kathmandu via the scenic highway leading us to the Nepal Tibet border in Rasuwa district. After all the immigration formalities at the border we will be entering Tibet and meeting without team members who will be giving us a short briefing and will be transporting us to our accommodation (Guest House) for the night in Kyirong town (Gyirong Town).

We will be staying in Kyirong for an extra day for acclimatization purposes during which we will be exploring the beautiful town as well visiting the Pakba Monastery. After exploring the beautiful town of Kyirong we will be returning back to our guest house for the night.

The drive from Kyirong to Saga is a long one during which we will be covering around 235 KM in total filled with the beautiful views of the temperate desert terrains. The drive is a beautiful one filled with the scenic views of Mount Shishapangma (8027M), Gaurishankar (7134M) and some of the peaks from the Langtang Himalayan Range. We will be greeted with the sight of beautiful lakes including Khunmen Tso, Peiku Tso and Karru Ongchen which will lead us to the bridge of Yarlung Tsangpo (longest river of Tibet) which we will be crossing to reach our destination Saga at an elevation of 4600 M. After a beautiful scenic drive we will checking in our designated guest House in Saga for the night.

The drive from Saga to Lake Manasarovar via Pryang is a long one as it will take us around 8-9 hours in total during which we will be covering around 510 KM in total. The drive begins as we head west from Saga passing through the small yet beautiful settlement of Zhongba leading us towards Paryang from where we will be greeted with the view of the Holy Mount Kailash for the first time. The drive continues as we head towards Lake Manasarovar, the monument of Chiu Monastery which sits on top of the steep red-colored Sangtok Pelri Mountain becomes visible. The beautiful views of the Manasarovar lake with the Kailash Range (Gangdise Mountains) and Gurla Mandhata (7694M) is unparalleled and with the stunning views of the Lake Rakshas which is beside the western side of Lake Manasarovar makes the views even more surreal. After a long drive we will be staying in a guest house or a Tented camp for the night.

After a good night's rest we will be enjoying the morning views of Lake Manasarovar with the picturesque view of Mount Kailash in the background. We will be heading towards Darchen which is a short drive from Lake Manasarovar of just around 40 KM. Darchen is also the starting point for the Kailash Kora Trek which is around 55 KM long and takes around 3 days/ 2 nights to complete. We will be staying in a Guest House in Darchen for the night enjoying the majestic views of the beautiful terrains.

We will begin our trek to Dira-Puk from Darchen which will take us around 6-7 hours during which we will be covering a total of 15-16 KM. We will be passing through the Yama Dwar marking the beginning of our trek. Tre trails to Dira-Puk are well maintained with steady offbeat trails which can be conquered without much stress. After a beautiful trek we will reach Dera-Puk where we will be staying for the night.

The trek to Zuthul-Puk via the Dolma La Pass at 5670 M which is the highest point of elevation for the entirety of our trip will be the most challenging stretch of our trek.The trek to Zuthul-Puk is a complicated one so, we will be trekking according to our own pace. After a hard yet beautiful trek we will reach Zuthul-Puk during Dusk. Zuthulu-Puk is famous for the cave where Milareppa meditated and the Milarepa Monastery. We will be staying in a guest house for the night getting our well deserved rest for the night.

Note: Trekkers can also rent horses if they find it difficult to trek. The Horse charge is paid by the trekkers directly to the herder and is not covered by the Mountain Ram Adventures team.

On the final day of our trek we will be having a very short trek and will be heading to Saga via a vehicle ride enjoying the scenic drive filled with the beautiful views of the Trans Himalayan Vista. After a scenic drive we will reach Saga and will be checking in to our Guest House and exploring the settlement of Saga.

As the Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar overland tour yatra is coming to an end we will be heading back towards the town of Kyirong where we will be staying the night and enjoying our last day in Tibet by exploring the town and enjoying the local delicacies. We will be staying in a cozy guest house for the night in Kyirong.

The trip to Tibet is finally coming to an end as we will be entering Nepal via the Kyirong Border connecting with the Rasuwa District of Nepal. After completing all the formalities at the border and bidding farewell to our team we will be heading back to Kathmandu in a scenic drive of 150 KM. The trekkers will be dropped back to the agreed upon location or the head office of the Mountain Ram Adventures team marking the end of the beautiful Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar Overland Tour.

The Chinese Visa, Tibet Travel Permit (TTP), Alien's Travel Permit (ATP), Military Area EntryPermit(MPS)  and Foreign Affairs Permit (FAP) are required to participate in the Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar Overland Tour. The foreign citizens are not required to purchase the Langtang National Park Permit but the Tibet Travel Permit should be shown at the park entrance in Dhunche.

Traveling to Tibet is not possible without the travel agencies as per the policies of the concerned Chinese authorities. The travelers are therefore required to apply for the visa through a registered travel agency. The Mountain Ram Adventures team will be making all the travel arrangements required for the trip ensuring the smooth sailing of the trip to Tibet.

Kalash Yatra is a beautiful journey filled with captivating views of the Trans-Himalayan Region during which the Altitude can become a problem as the trekkers will be trekking up to an elevation of 5670 M at Dolma La Pass. The trekkers planning to trek should inform their concerned guides if any difficulty arises while trekking and be both physically and mentally prepared to withstand the conditions of the region.

The Guides and team members assigned by the Mountain Ram Adventures for the Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar Yatra are highly skilled and qualified with a lot of experience under their belt and can handle any circumstances which can arise during the tour in Tibet. The team representatives will be carrying a first aid kit with them for the journey as well ensuring the safety of the trekkers.

Summiting Mount Kailash is prohibited as per the rules and policies of the Chinese Government to preserve its spiritual significance and also due to its religious and cultural importance for the community of Hindu, Jains, Buddhist and Tibetan religion of Bon.

The travelers planning to travel to Tibet for the Kailash Yatra should firstly obtain a valid Chinese visa and other Tibet Travel Permits which can be obtained from the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu, Nepal. The trekkers planning to trek with the Mountain Ram Adventures should not need to worry as all the visa formalities will be taken care of by the team. However the trekkers planning to travel with the team should contact the team before 5-6 working days so the team can apply for the visa on behalf of the clients.

The best time to participate in the Kailash Manasarovar tour is during the months from April to June and September to October as the weather condition is favorable and stays stable without much fluctuation and the views of the Mount Kailash and surrounding peaks are much more visible during this time.

There is no age limit to participate in the Kailash Yatra with the Mountain Ram Adventures team however the travelers should be prepared to withstand the harsh conditions of the Trans-Himalayan region and the elevation as the highest point of elevation during the tour will be at Dolma La Pass at an altitude of 5670 M. There is an option of crossing the pass on a horse as well if the trekkers find it difficult to cross the Pass by trekking. Travelers under the age of 16 should be accompanied by their guardians for the Tibet tour with the team

The trekkers will be covering a total distance of around 45-50 KM during their three day trek beginning from Dira-Puk. The trek is a comfortable one filled with well maintained routes all the way during which the altitude might become a problem as we will be trekking to an elevation of 5670 M at the Dolma La Pass.

As the travelers will be trekking for three days through the Trans-Himalayan terrains the trekkers are suggested to stay fit for their journey. The trekking routes are well maintained and stable with steady inclines and decline which will not oppose any risks to the trekkers however the altitude plays a crucial role so the trekkers are suggested to stay relatively fit for the trek. The trekkers facing difficulty while trekking can also conquer the trail on a horse. The charge of the horse is not covered in the packages and the trekkers will be paying the horse herder directly for the service.

As the tour takes the travelers to an elevation of 5670 M the trekkers are suggested to carry the high altitude medicines with them. It is not compulsory as the guides and team members will be carrying a first aid kit with them containing the basic essentials. High Altitude medicines include Diamox, Zolamide which can be purchased from most of the Pharmacies around.

  1. Itinerary Disclaimer
    The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra presented by the Mountain Ram Adventures team will commence strictly according to the itinerary presented to the clients as all the required facilities for the smooth operation of the trip are pre booked however during any emergencies or rise of any uncertain events the itinerary might  be changed to ensure the safety of the clients and the team during which clients are requested to understand the situation and coordinate with the team as they will be making the decisions ensuring the safety.

  2. Transportation Arrangement:
    The Mountain Ram Adventures team will be responsible for the arrangement of all the commutes required for the seamless travel experience of the clients. The transportation facility includes all the commutes beginning from Kathmandu to Kyirong and back to Kathmandu from Kyirong. The commutes have a fixed route during which any request for detour or any stops requested will  not be considered  or will incur some additional charges not covered by the Mountain Ram Adventures team.

  3. Past Trekking Experience
    During the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra the clients will be trekking for 3 days covering a total of around 50 KM and will be trekking to an elevation of 5670 M. Even though having past trekking experience is not compulsory for the trip as the trek can be done by beginners as  well as the routes  are well maintained and steady  with relatively easy inclines to conquer. The trekkers will be accompanied with their Tibetan Guides for their entirety of their trip who will be assisting the trekkers during any emergencies. The trekkers are however suggested  to be fit while participating in the trip and also conduct a full body medical checkup before participating in the trip to ensure that any health related emergency  will not arise during the trek.

    During Kailash Mansarovar Yatra the team will be arranging for the accommodations in Guest house for the majority of the trip however during their stay in Lake Manasarovar the Guest Houses are limited so, the trekkers should be prepared to sleep in tented camps as well if there are no available rooms in the guest  houses. The team will be providing accommodations for the Nine nights and will be staying in a full board meal plan which includes Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner (one item of the menu).

    During the tour the  clients will be able to enjoy  the Tibetan delicacies which are hearty and comfort foods which will warm the trekkers from the inside to tackle the cold weather of the Tibetan Plateau. The clients are suggested to carry some supplementary meals with them including chocolate bars, Granola Bars, Chips and other snack items with them for the tour. The clients are strongly advised to properly dispose of the wrappers properly.

  7. Best Time to Participate in the tour
    During the months of May to late June
    The months of May to June is considered to be the best time for any tour in Tibet as the weather condition is pleasant during which the temperature ranges from anywhere between 4-18 degrees celsius and  gradually decreases as the sun sets. The views of the trans Himalayan region can be enjoyed without much disturbance and clear blue skies in  the background making it one of the best times to participate  in the The Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar Overland tour. The routes during this time can be a bit crowded and travelers seeking to travel during the favorable conditions can also participate  in the tour during September to October as the conditions are similar but it is less crowded during the time.

    During the Months of July to late August:
    During the Months of July to Late August the season of Monsoon begins in the southern side of  the Himalayas( Nepal) during which the roads connecting with tibet can become inaccessible due to landslides and muddy trails increasing the risks of traveling however on the north side of the Himalayas (Tibetan Plateau) is not much affected by the monsoon session as it experiences minimal rain so participating in the  The Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar Overland tour during the monsoon season is possible.

    During the months of September to Late October:
    The Months of September to Late October is similar to the weather from May to June during which the weather conditions are favorable for the tour and temperature ranging from 4-18 degrees celsius. This time is perfect for the travelers seeking to have a less crowded experience with the pleasant weather with immaculate views of the surrounding vista the months from September to Late October can be considered to be perfect.

    During the Months from November to April:
    The period of 6 months beginning from November ending in April can be considered not the best time for traveling to the Kailash region as during this time the temperature can drop to -15 degrees celsius at night and the surrounding is covered under the thick layer of snow making it difficult to navigate while trekking. Due to the harsh conditions the stops(shops and vendors) at higher elevation close down causing much more difficulty to get the basic amenities while traveling. Due to the harsh conditions alone the trekkers are highly suggested  not to plan their travel during the winter  season as medical assistance during the winter season is also limited which can become a huge problem while in the harsh Himalayan terrain.

  8. Permits for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra
    The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra requires multiple permits which includes The Chinese Visa, Tibet Travel Permit (TTP), Alien's Travel Permit (ATP), Military Area Entry Permit(MPS)  and Foreign Affairs Permit (FAP) which need to be shown at the checkpost for the Langtang National Park entrance at Dhunche  and the immigration office at the Kyirong Border. The permits can be applied directly by visiting the Embassy of China in Kathmandu Nepal but travelers planning to participate in the tour designed by the Mountain Ram Adventures team need not to worry as the team will be applying for the permits and visa on behalf of the clients. The travelers are requested to contact the team before 5-6 working days so the team can apply for the visa and permits in time.

  9. Essentials required for The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra
    The clients traveling with the Mountain Ram Adventures will be provided with the list of basic essentials required for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. As the tour includes trekking for 3 days the trekkers are suggested to bring their trekking gears with them including trekking shoes, trekking bags, proper gears and if necessary crampons (Micro spikes). The trekkers are suggested to carry their personal kit with them including sunscreen prescribed medicines with them for the trip and also some snack items including protein and granola bars, chips etc for their trip.

  10. Basic information for The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra
    Internet: During the Tibet Tour the internet facility will be there for most of  the days in town’s including Kyirong, Saga, Darchen and Dera-Puk. The travelers are suggested to download a VPN app for their journey if they want to access the Google services as it  is blocked in Tibet and China.

    Laundry: During the Tibet tour the trekkers are suggested to pack enough and proper gears for the trek according to a shortlist of essentials which will be provided by the team if requested. The  Laundry facility can be utilized by the travelers in various towns and the laundry cost is not covered by  the team. 

    Extra Luggages: during the tour the international clients can leave  their extra luggages at the head office of the Mountain Ram Adventures team at Z-street, Thamel and collect it after the completion of their trek.

    Hot shower: During The Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar Overland Tour the facility of hot shower will be available in the guest house’s of towns including Kyirong, Saga, Dera-Pukand Darchen which the travelers can use. The  trekkers are however suggested not to take showers while trekking as many health emergencies can arise if the bodies of the trekkers are not dried properly leading to cold, fever and even pneumonia.

  11. Risks during The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra
    During the Tibet tour the main risk during the trek is related to altitude as the highest elevation of the tour is at a staggering 5670 M at Dolma La Pass which the travelers will be crossing via a three days trekking. The trekkers are suggested to inform their guides  and team members if they face any difficulty. The team members will be carrying first aid kits and can mitigate the risk by firstly  accessing the situation.

    Ways to Avoid Altitude Sickness:

    1. Have a proper and well balanced meal sufficient to fuel you up for the trek.
    2. Drink plenty of Water  while trekking
    3. Avoid the consumption of Alcohol, Cigarettes and Caffeine products during the trek as it causes dehydration.
    4. Trek according to your own pace and trek slowly  to avoid fatigue.

  13. Visa Application:
    The international travelers traveling to Nepal to participate in the Kailash tour should first of all obtain the Visa of Nepal which they can get without much hassle by contacting the Embassy of Nepal or the consultant Office of Nepal in their respective country and for the citizens of selective countries Nepal also offers visa on arrival at various entry points including Tribhuvan International Airport. The Mountain Ram Adventures Team wont be responsible for any of the visa process of the clients relating with Nepal and will only be responsible for the clients visa and permits for Tibet.  

  14. Religious significance of Mount Kailash
    Mount Kailash (6638 M) of the Gangdise  Mountain Range in Tibet is one of the most sacred and revered sites for the religion of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and the Tibetan religion of Bon. Many devotees visit the sacred site for pilgrimage tours and also consider Mount Kailash to be the spiritual epicenter of the World. Mount Kailash is believed to be the earthly residence of the God of Destruction, Lord Shiva by the Hindu community and for the Buddhist community it is believed to be the residence of the Buddha Demchok who is considered to be a supreme deity of Harmony. It is widely  believed the circumambulation ritual journey around the Mountain helps to erase the sins of a lifetime  and leads  to the path of enlightenment. The Jain community also has a strong connection with the Holy Mount Kailash as they believe that the first Tirthankara, Rishabhadeva gained their spiritual nirvana in Ashtapada (Mount Kailash).

    Due to the religious and spiritual connection of the Mountain with many religious communities the Mount Kailash expedition is restricted by the Government of China to preserve  the spiritual sanctity. According to Tibetan beliefs Milarepa who was a Tibetan Sage in the early 11th century is the only person to ever summit the Holy Mountain. He is also renowned for its contribution in spreading the teaching of Buddhism all over the Trans- Himalayan and Himalayan Region.

  15. Extension of the trip
    The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra can be extended for one additional day which can include Charan Sparsh during which the travelers will be heading to the Charan (foot) of Mount Kailash. The travelers need to inform the team if they want to extend the trip, before  the beginning of the tour to ensure seamless operation of the tour. The trip extension will incur some additional charges. The Charan Sparsh excursion will extend the trip by one day during which the trekkers will be staying in Dera-Puk for one additional day.

  16. Difficulty while trekking
    During the tour the participants will be trekking for a total of 3 days during which they will be trekking through comfortable routes leading to Dolma La Pass, a well renowned religious Mountain Pass. The Pass is at an elevation of 5670 M and falls under the moderate trekking grade. The travelers might face some difficulty while trekking and if so they can rent Horses for  the trek as well making it much more effective and comfortable. The cost of the horse is not included in the package and is paid to the herder directly by the trekkers themselves.

  17. Currency and Extra Funds
    For the MKailash Mansarovar Yatra the travelers will be required to carry  the Chinese Yuan (Renminbi)  which is the official currency of Tibet. The travelers can exchange the currency from the local money exchange vendors in Thamel area, Kathmandu. The travelers need to carry a certain amount of extra cash for personal expenses and emergency funds as the trips can be extended due to the rise of uncertain events as well.  If the travelers need assistance in exchanging the currency they can contact the team members for assistance.

  18. Insurance for the Tour and Evacuation.
    The travelers participating in Kailash Mansarovar Yatra with the Mountain Ram Adventures team need to have an insurance plan from their respective countries and cover the cost of cancellation of trip, medical emergencies, delays or any travel aspects. The insurance will help to cover any financial strain fully or partially during the trip if any mishaps occur.
