Packing List for Trekking in Nepal

  1. Trekking shoes – this is the only item that you need to purchase before the trek, the shoes must be broken in before hand. The shoes should also have ankle support.
  2. Trekking bag (40L if hiring porter if not 70L)
  3. Thermal set (under wares) – This is needed for higher altitude above 3000 meter.
  4. Long trouser (trekking pant) dry fast. – It is advisable to purchase the two parts long trousers. This is because at lower altitude you will be hotter. Therefore you can remove the bottom part.
  5. Warm trouser – This is for higher altitude where it is a lot colder.
  6. Fleece jumper– For regular use through out the trek. Its gets colds
  7. Down jacket – For high altitude (Above 3000 meter)
  8. Light jacket (wind breaker) – Incase it rains or is windy. For use over middle layer or down jacket.
  9. T-shirt long sleeves 2 pairs (not cotton but moister wicking)
  10. T-shirt half sleeves 2 pairs (not cotton but moister wicking)
    (These t-shirts must be moister wicking to prevent cold due to wetness)
  11. Gloves – needed for high passes, EBC and altitude above 3000 meters)
  12. Buff warm – To avoid inhaling dust, cold air and other impurities
  13. Sun hat – No need to explain, you know what it is for hehe.
  14. Warm hat – Cold weather at high altitude.
  15. Socks warm -3 pairs – Preferably merino wool they don’t stick and easy wash and they dry quickly.
  16. Socks light – 3 pairs Preferably merino wool they don’t stick and easy wash and they dry quickly.
  17. Tea house socks (woolen indoor) – Once you are at tea house, you might want to keep your feet warm.
  18. Under wares 5 pairs
  19. Sleeping bag – Its should be rated at -20 for all season.
  20. Rain and wind pants
  21. Gaiters (Forhigh passes like Chola, Konmala, Renjola, Larky, thorang la, Amphu lampe, Tasi Lapcha)
  22. Silk liner for sleeping bag (If hiring from us)
  23. Quick dry towel (Preferably microfiber)
  24. Water bottle and camel pack – At night water bottle can be filled with boiled hot water to act as hot water bottle inside the sleeping bag.
  25. Water purification tabs–This can be purchased very cheap in Kathmandu. Save money on bottled water and save the environment
  26. Head lamp with extra batteries – Needed at most tea houses example going to bathroom at night.
  27. Sun glasses – To protect against snow blindness. UV protective.
  28. Swiss knife – Has many different uses on the mountain.
  29. Sandals – You don’t use your trekking shoes once you are at the tea house so better to have you own sandals or light running shoes.
  30. Trekking poles – It can very useful for those who has knee problem specially when going down.
  31. Sun’s cream (Face lotion)– It should be rated to 50+ SPF due to higher UV raise on the mountain even at -10.

  34. Walking crampons – (For high passes like Chola, Konmala, Renjola, Larky, thorang la, Amphu lampe, Tasi Lapcha)
  35. Baby wipes – You won’t be taking shower for many days on the mountain. And its not advisable to take one because you can’t dry your body quickly so there is chance to catch cold (HAPE)
  36. Medicines (First add kit) –

    1 – Diamox: Important to carry when hiking above 3000 meters. Can be purchased cheaply in Kathmandu.
    2 – Imodium: It stops diarrhea
    3 – Cipro: Its an antibiotic used for extreme cases of diarrhea.
    4 – Electrolyte: For use when body looses essential salts. Eg – diarrhea, long hike causing excessive sweating
    5 – Ibuprofen: It’s a painkiller for muscle pain, its normal to have it on the mountain after long hike.
    6 – Paracetamol: Fever or cold headache
